幕の内弁当

弁当の一種で、容器に複数のおかずと白飯を詰め合わせる。おかずは、焼魚や揚げ物、煮物、玉子焼き、漬物などが一般的。芝居の幕間に手軽に食べられるように考案されたなど、名前の由来は諸説ある。

Makunouchi bento

A type of bento. Packed with multiple dishes and white rice. Common dishes include fried fish, deep-fried food, simmered food, Japanese egg omelet, and pickles. Although there are various theories, the name Makunouchi, which means “between acts,” is said to come from the fact that the bento was eaten during the intermission of a theater play.
