すき焼き

肉や野菜を調味した鍋料理。関東では醤油・みりん・酒・砂糖を調合した割下で煮る。関西では肉を焼いた後に醤油・砂糖・酒などで野菜を加えて煮る。肉は薄切りの牛肉、野菜はネギや白菜、春菊などが一般的。このほか、焼き豆腐や白滝などを加えることが多い。溶き卵をつけて食べる。

Sukiyaki

A hot pot dish with meat and vegetables. In the Kanto region, ingredients are simmered in sauce made with soy sauce, mirin sweet sake, and sugar. In the Kansai region, the meat is seared first, then seasoned with soy sauce, sugar, and sake, and the rest of the ingredients are added. Common ingredients are thinly sliced beef, green onions, napa cabbage, and shungiku leaves. Broiled tofu and shirataki noodles may be added as well. Enjoyed by dipping the ingredients in beaten egg.
